The continuing flaps over Michelle Obama's troubling comments led Barack Obama to make a 'lay off my wife' kind of threat. But the reason her rants cause so much concern is simple - it looks like she's in charge and no one can reel her in.
Whether she's being unpatriotic, angry, or unhinged, the hits just keep on coming. And her continually unckecked rhetoric shows not only her grave flaws, but the inabilty of Barack or the campaign to tone her down.
Compounding the electorate's unease is simply the appearance Michelle is the head of the Obama household and she would play too major a role in the administration. Seeing the two together in an interview underscores this. Barack is soft spoken and laid back while the lantern jawed Michelle often interrupts and flashes angry eyes, making her bitterness at the country too transparent.
The hope is the Obama marriage is a partnership in which one spouse would recognize their supporting role to the other pursuing and perhaps winning such a high office. But it's hard to escape the feeling Barack answers to Michelle at the end of the day.
